Asian American Screenwriting COntest Asian American Media Development and Yolk Magazine are seeking entries through Oct. 29 to its screenwriting contest. Screenplays must be original, non-optioned, non-produced and registered with the WGA or copyrighted with the Library of Congress. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Breast Cancer Study Seeking Participants The Stanford Community Cancer Support Project is seeking volunteers with breast cancer to compare the effects of different styles of support groups on coping in stress. Voting Workshops The Alameda County Registrar of Voters will arrange for bilingual staff to hold voting classes and workshops for Alameda County organizations. The registrar has Chinese and Spanish speakers on hand, and can arrange for Vietnamese-language assistance. Class material includes absentee voting information, how to register to voter and an introduction to ballots, propositions and candidates. Language Discrimination Assistance The Language Rights Project offers free legal assistance for people who have experienced discrimination in the workplace based on their language or accent, or who have been unable to obtain access or services from public agencies because of their language. Advice is given in Cantonese, Mandarin, English and Spanish. For more information, call 800-864-1664.

Legal Advice and Referral Volunteer attorneys are available to provide free legal advice and referral to elderly and low- and moderate-income Asian Americans. Chinese translation is available 6 p.m.-7 p.m. Tuesdays at the Asian Law Caucus, 720 Market St., Fifth Floor, San Francisco. In collaboration with Chinese for Affirmative Action, the caucus holds clinics for seniors, regardless of ethnicity, in Visitacion Valley the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the CAA office, 333 Schwerin St., Second Floor, San Francisco.
