Japanese American National Museum Collections Day
The museum is seeking memorabilia from residents in the Bay Area for its upcoming exhibition America’s Concentration Camps: Remembering the Japanese American Experience. Artifacts will be collected on Jan. 15 from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the California Historical Society, 678 Mission St., San Francisco and Union Bank Community Room, Post St. and Buchanan St., San Francisco. Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Advisory CommitteeThis San Francisco Human Rights Commission committee is seeking new members who are activists knowlegeable and skilled in areas such as AIDS/HIV, anti-violence and civil rights. Arts Commission Project Grants The commission is accepting applications for grants offered to small and mid-sized San Francisco arts organizations seeking public help for local public presentations. San Francisco Ballet School AuditionsAmerica’s olderst classical ballet academy will hold audtions for its summer session on Feb. 12, 1:30 p.m. for girls 13-15, 3:30 p.m. for girls 15-18 and 5:30 p.m. for boys. YWCA-Chinatown The organization is looking for volunteers to tutor children in its after-school program Monday through Friday. Volunteers are especially needed to facilitate an English conversational hour for immigrant teen girls. A 3–4 hour per week commitment is required. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a current sophomore or junior attending a college or university in southern California who is pursuing Chinese American studies in the humanities or social sciences.
