Could Asian domain names fuel the next Internet gold rush?

As further evidence of the Internets ability to cross both physical and cultural boundaries, last month Verisign Global Registry Services began accepting Chinese, Korean and Japanese language suffixes for domain names.
While in the past Web addresses were limited to 37 characters the 26 letters of the English language, 10 numerals and a hyphen there are now 40,282 characters that can stand alone or be combined. Gregory P. Ray, CEO of the Shanghai, China-based Market IQ Limited (MIQ) believes the development presents a fantastic opportunity for Asians and Asian companies to access the worldwide Internet community.
