Emil Amok: It’s About Inclusion

On the radio news, Jessie Jackson was making sound bites. “There’s a face on those chads,” he was saying. “Let every vote count.”

Eyes may roll at the thought of Jackson missing an opportunity to rhyme with chad. Perhaps he could have thrown in a perfunctory “chad make me sad, Dad.” Or how about a hounding and repetitious, “Keep votes alive! Keep votes alive!”

But to me, Jackson was making a point that practically jumped out of my radio speakers. Rhyme or no-rhyme, when it comes to democracy, counting chads, counting votes, is all about inclusion.

Floss Talk: Horror Stories Spark My Imagination

I like reading, especially horror fiction books with a little romance in them. I don’t think of myself as what you kids might call a “nerd or a bookworm.” I’m just someone who likes to get lost in my imagination. I know why teenagers hate to read because I’m a teenager myself. If teachers tell me to read those science or history books, I would be the first one getting yelled at for sleeping in class.
