While the dot-com culture has fueled San Francisco’s economy, it is also responsible for the city’s spiraling rental hikes. Most affected are low-income families and nonprofits, which are being squeezed out of the city. Ly Nguyen, one of the founding co-directors of OASIS, isn’t letting that deter her, though. OASIS, an acronym for Offering Arts to our Sisters In SOMA, develops leadership-building, and provides arts and cultural programs for young women.

Still No Clear Winner in District 7

On the last Board of Supervisors meeting before the new session gets underway next week, District 7 candidates Sup. Mabel Teng and Tony Hall were still awaiting official vote count results, leaving one of the closest district supervisorial races still up in the air and rumors of a recount still a possibility.

Last December Hall appeared to have defeated incumbent Teng by 39 votes. But last Tuesday, Hall met with Department of Elections Director Phil Paris to clarify circulating recount rumors, which if executed, could ultimately overturn his victory.
