API Outreach

By AsianWeek Staff

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Terry McAuliffe met with API leaders during the 2001 California Democratic Party Convention in Anaheim, Calif., earlier this month.

“I look forward to working with leaders of the API community to implement their long-term plans. Together, we will build upon the foundation that was laid for the 2000 election and use that momentum for future elections,” DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe said. “We need to work with the community to build upon the success of the 2000 election, and continue to increase the number of API voters that identified themselves as Democrats and voted Democratic. This includes our unprecedented commitment to hiring API senior staff.”

This past election, the Democratic Party expanded on its 1996 efforts and continued to strengthen its base with aggressive activities. The API mounted a hard-hitting, multi-lingual ad campaign with paid advertising in over 20 newspapers targeting 26-plus pan-Asian communities.
