Sacramento The continuing recovery of Asian markets helped California post a 13.2 percent boost in exports during the first quarter of the year, Gov. Gray Davis announced last week.
Exports surged to more than $30 billion, the seventh consecutive quarter of export growth, Davis said.
Japan surpassed Mexico as the top destination for Californian exports, he said. Exports to Japan grew nearly 18 percent while exports to all other Asian markets rose 15.6 percent. Mexico, Canada, and China, respectively, placed second, third and fourth as export destinations.
Computer and electronic products accounted for 49 percent of the first quarters exports, Davis said, followed by non-electrical machinery exports.
Davis said the export growth demonstrates the vitality of the states economy and its leadership in the world economy.
