Alejandro Toledo received a full scholarship to the University of San Francisco, where he got his undergraduate degree. He then pursued a graduate degree at Stanford University.
Donato Tapia, his former USF roommate, said, Alejandro never thought about being a presidential candidate. Tapia said he recalls that Toledo just wanted to be a businessman. In fact, Tapia said, He cared much more about girls and his football team than about the intrigues of politics.
Toledo attended USF on a full soccer scholarship.
His former advisor at USF, Violet Yacoub, said that the university administrators offered a full scholarship to Toledo because they saw he had a great future ahead of him and they wanted to promote ethnic diversity. Toledo is of native South American descent.
The media coverage of the election shows Toledo having a good chance of winning, since he won most of the votes in the initial election in April. |
