Sacramento More than 1,000 school districts throughout the state will soon be receiving a new publication from the California Department of Education to help the districts keep up with new education laws. The publication is called Education Technology Planning: A Guide for School Districts and is intended to assist the districts in developing or updating their education technology plans, something that was recently enacted into the state education code.
In order to qualify for educational technology funding administered by the department of education, districts must have a three- to five-year technology plan in place.
Technology is integral to education in the 21st century, said state Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin. The international marketplace of ideas and commerce is changing rapidly in its application of technology, and the technological skills of our students must rise to meet this challenge.
Eastin said a child who does not receive adequate training in technological advances might not have as good a chance to succeed.
Students must be highly proficient in the use of information technology to maneuver in todays world, she added. |
