Queerific? Yeah Baby, Weve Come A Long Way!
What kind of theme is that? What does it mean? Why cant we have a regular theme like everyone else does? When I was writing this article, these were the same questions that came up over and over again. I have come to this decision: I will try not to justify but to speak to the process which, I believe, is relevant to the selection of this years theme.
Historically, the word queer has been a term of hatred and abuse. It has been used as a weapon against gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders in short, against anyone who doesnt fit neatly into the rigid categories that heterosexuality depends upon. More recently, however, queer has acquired a positive rather than negative meaning.

Is Islam Really a Problem for Jews and Hindus?
By Amritjit Singh
On June 2, 2001, The New York Times reported in its New York Report Section (Two Unlikely Allies Come Together in Hatred of Muslims, Page A13), that a group of extremist Queens-Long Island Hindus (HinduUnity.org), who presume to speak for all their fellow believers, have joined forces with the Brooklyn followers of the late Rabbi Meir David Kahane (Kahane.org). The two groups have agreed to share their resources and strategies even as they help each other to maintain their hate websites. The Times article by Dean E. Murphy cites a commentary from the HinduUnity website that calls upon Hindus from around the globe to stand up and take arms against Muslims in India, urging them to exterminate and banish all Muslims.
