Party Time

The romantic Wailea Seaside Chapel and Gardens was the Hawaiian setting for Sacramento’s Kevin David Fat, son of Dr. Kenneth & Lina Fat, and Sarina Miyuki Masagawa’s beautiful wedding ceremony attended by many California friends. Also this month, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Lai and Mrs. Nellie Fung welcomed a large family gathering, celebrating the marriage of their children Serena Dori and Timothy Fung, at Oakland’s Tsing Tao Restaurant. The highlight of their reception was that when glasses clinked, ever playful Tim asked “old married couples” to stand up and give the newlyweds a kissing lesson instead of just watching the bashful couple perform the usual ritual.

Babies!

Sacramento’s Joe and Gloriette Pawlowski introduced granddaughter Xian Michele Fong, daughter of moviemaker son Darryl and Elaine Fong, at a Yet Wah Restaurant luncheon in San Francisco. Meanwhile Amanda Paige Yen traveled with parents Tommy and Carolynne Yen from San Diego to meet grandparents James and Evelyn Gate’s Silicon Valley friends at Ming’s of Palo Alto. San Franciscans Hampson and Evangeline Lum shared their favorite pastimes — eating and dancing — with friends at their new grandson Garren Hampson’s red egg luncheon at Empress of China Restaurant.

Happy Birthday, Dad

Avid golfer Larry Louie hits 70, and celebrates by playing the “back nine” at his birthday party. A great video showed black and white stills of him as child movie star “Ducky” Louie with costars Anthony Quinn and John Wayne in his Back to Bataan and China’s Little Devils roles, following “roasting dad” stories by his children, Sharon, Rodney and Michael Louie.

Happy Travelers...

Busy travelers were Dr. Frank and Margaret Gee, with Valley Radiology Lab associate Dr. Andrew and Elizabeth Koo, on an Eastern Europe tour. Enjoying the company of three generations were Saratoga’s Don Tang family with daughter Sandra and two wee granddaughters on their first Disneyland cruise. Neighbors Doc Harry and Grace Wong also cruised Disney-style with their six grandchildren. Cruising and dancing with the Platters (remember them?) were Miriam Ngai and Willie Chu, Jim and Evelyn Gate, Jim and Susan Lee on RCL’s largest ship, Voyager of the Seas. Trapezing around Europe were Michael and Macy Mak, Bert and Barbara Why, Norman and Antonia Tu. Jetting “Around the World in 30 Days” were energetic Los Gatans Ken and Mabel Lai. Celebrating a 7th Anniversary in London were Atherton’s Ed and Mary Ann Sing. Escorting his Seattle sisters on a Yangtze River cruise were Dr. Roger and Sylvia Eng with friends Ron and Joyce Wong of Sunnyvale. Cruising the Alaskan seascape were Benson & Helen Kwan, Gordon & Nancy Mar, Don and Rose Tang, Katie and Hanley Siou, and Dan and Shirley Mock. Also on the seas were Rosemary & Howard Cheung with friends Frank and Ancilla Kwok, Peter and Gloria Hom and others headed for Tahiti’s islands.

Ever on the move, we Wongs joined a Scandinavian tour with fellow Silicon Valley adventure lovers Wilson and Pauline Fong, Clarence and Virginia Bakken, Muriel and John Kao, Bill and Sally Kimura, and Ron and Aimee Leung. We reveled in Tauck Tours’ leadership in showing us the beautiful countryside and villages of Norway. The highlight was taking a pony-drawn cart ride through gushing waterfalls to stand on an icy glacier, and walking the quaint cobblestone streets in sunlight up till 11 p.m. nightly.

Summer Doing

Shanghai Children’s Palace Art Troupe musical and martial arts performance August 5 at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre. The celebratory banquet following will benefit San Francisco’s St. Mary’s Day School. For ticket information, call 415-929-4695.
