Asian Cinevision served up this year’s crop of Asian and Asian American films at the 24th Asian American International Film Festival at Florence Gould Hall in New York, July 19 - 28. Over the course of the 10-day festival, Asian Cinevision paid homage to veteran filmmaker Wayne Wang in honor of the 20th anniversary of Chan Is Missing — the first feature-length film with an Asian American cast produced and directed by Asian Americans — and Wang’s contributions to the independent film industry with selected screenings of his films and panel discussions.

Tommy Boy’s Lady is Back

In keeping with the theme of this year’s San Mateo County Fair and Fiesta, opening August 10-19, Fun in Any Language, two stages will feature a veritable potpourri of international groups, including singers and dancers representing European nations and Asian countries. Included in the International Stage schedule is Filipina American performer Jocelyn Enriquez. Enriquez has been described as a diva of style and sophistication. She possesses a playful, fresh voice that is passionate and filled with spirit and youth. She spoke to AsianWeek from her home in San Diego about her life and the upcoming Bay Area performance.
