Korean American Senior Survey Finds New Needs

The Korean Community Center of the East Bay (KCCEB) figured the best way to help Korean American seniors was to first understand what they needed. And the best way to get that information is through a survey — which turned out to be one of the most comprehensive senior surveys ever done in the Bay Area.

Alajandra Mojica sees students cutting school. Others, she says, sit in class and listen to lectures, while wondering, “What does this have to do with my life?”

To engage youth, teachers need to focus on making subjects relate to students’ lives, she believes. That’s the message she is touting in her run for a seat on the San Francisco School Board. Mojica, though, is just a high school senior.
