2003 Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest Sponsored by the Elks Club and the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department, boys and girls, ages 8-13, are invited to compete in a basketball free throw competition held at the Chinese Playground in Chinatown. Winners will compete in the Jan. 4, 2003 city-wide tourney at the Sunset Recreation Center. Entry is free. Sign up by Wed., Nov. 27 at the Chinese Playground, 850 Sacramento St., San Francisco. Register Your Marrow/Stem Cells Currently, Asians make up only 7 percent of the national registry. With so few Asians registered as potential donors, the chances of Asian patients finding a match are very slim. People ages 18-60 and in good health are encouraged to participate in the marrow drives held at six Northern California locations through Oct. 22. For more info: 800-59-DONOR or www.aadp.org.

Chinatown Night Market Fair Chinatown Neighborhood Inc. presents Chinatown Night Market Fair in Chinatown’s Portsmouth Square every Saturday from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. until Nov. 9. The evening program will include traditional lion dancing, Chinese opera, musical performances, Chinese painting, fortunetellers and feng shui consultants. Participating merchants will validate up to two hours parking from 5 p.m. - 2 a.m. at Portsmouth Square Garage and from 6 p.m. - 2 a.m. at St. Mary’s Garage, with minimum purchase. MUKTIR GAAN (SONG OF FREEDOM) The Progressive Bengali Network presents a free screening of Muktir Gaan (Song of Freedom), a documentary about the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.
