Newcomer School: Staying Put

Plans to move high school campus are dropped

The Newcomer High School community, including some 400 students and staffers, prevailed last week after a two-month long battle against an attempt by the district to close down the campus and move its student and staff to a different locale.

The resolution, which called for Newcomer to relocate to an unoccupied wing in Mission High, was dropped by its author interim Superintendent Linda Davis.

During a June 13 Board of Education meeting, Davis avoided what could have been a contentious night by removing the resolution from the agenda altogether...
