Political future for Chan, Liu and Chu: Assemblywomen Wilma Chan and Carol Liu are all looking to the future as they prepare to leave the California Assembly at the end of 2006. Assemblywoman Judy Chu has already declared her candidacy for John Chiang’s Board of Equalization seat. These three women deserve to move up because they have each made positive contributions to California as legislators. Chan emerged quickly in the leadership ranks and is considered a policy expert in health and education. Liu quickly defined her area of expertise by serving as the chair of the Committee on Higher Education. Chu has devoted herself to mobilizing the Asian Pacific American communities into becoming more involved in the legislative process. Her legislation attacking the issues of hate crime and unfair business practices that victimize immigrant communities, to name a few, has made her the “go to” person with regards to APA issues.
