Anti-Vietnam Regime Bomber Fights Extradition
PASADENA, Calif. –– Baldwin resident Van Duc Vo, 45, is awaiting a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decisions on whether he should be extradited to Thailand for attempting to bomb the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok in 2001.
Vo, who fled Communist Vietnam in 1978, claims his actions were political and has become a hero to some Vietnamese in America still dedicated to overthrowing the Southeast Asian nation’s Communist leadership.
“Now the judges in the case, every time they mention about 9/11 and the terrorist situation, but he’s not terrorist, he’s a freedom fighter,” said supporter Chanh Nguyen.
Vo was arrested after returning to the United States. He remains in custody in a federal detention center in Los Angeles. A decision is expected in 60 days.
