Shame on Wal-Mart

I am glad to see that us Asian Americans (“Wal-Mart: Do We Buy It?” July 21) are taking a stand against the Wal-Mart stores. For years, I too have felt their aggressive price lowering tactics have hurt communities –– especially small businesses. These large, cold stores pop up and steal all the local business.

Without small business opportunities, many Asian Americans and their families will suffer. I implore those to take a stand against Wal-Mart.

Go 49ers or Maybe Not

It is time for the San Francisco 49ers to apologize for their stupid videotape and remarks concerning Asian Americans.

If there is no apology, there will be a loss of money and ticket sales at the box office. The history of Irish and Asian Americans must never be forgotten. Remember it was the massive labor efforts of these fine people who gave us the transcontinental railroad in 1872.

Football is a sport, so let us be a good sport and solve this problem.

Don’t Demonize

I was disappointed with your sensationalistic treatment of the medical cannabis dispensary (“Marijuana Busts Target Asians,” July 7) and massage parlor raids (“Cops Crack Down on Smuggling,” July 7), by federal agents, both of which targeted those of Asian descent.

We should take precautions to not assist federal and local authorities in demonizing Asians as a foray to the larger goal of condemning sex work and using medical marijuana.

To Nash with Panache

I am Dale Minami’s brother and our family is very proud of him (“Doing Well While Doing Good,” July 14). What is truly remarkable about him, that in spite of all [these] accomplishments and recognitions, he remains one of the most grounded, down to earth individuals I know. I suppose the humility he was taught by my parents has truly taken root in his personality.

As a lifelong friend of Brad Yamauchi, I can personally attest to the gentleman’s integrity and dedication; however, I love Brad because of his unique sense of humor and outlook on life. It’s no wonder that his firm is so successful; it’s the people who make it so, through their broad range of experiences and skill sets.

To know Wendy Cheng, is to love Wendy (“The Sound of Deafness,” July 21). Wendy rises to every new challenge in her life. She has a joy of living that is catching. She has indeed been a blessing to our family. By the way, she is my daughter-in-law. I have learned so much from her. She continuously has a caring, sharing way about her.
