Anni Chung Honored
December 29, 2005
Self-Help for the Elderly’s Anni Chung was feted last week at a “Community Impact Awards” luncheon hosted by PG&E.
Chung was recognized as a key community leader who made significant contributions to the Chinese community.
PG&E presented a check for $5,000 to support the programs at Self-Help for the Elderly, and plans to make the luncheon an annual event.
Self-Help for the Elderly was established in 1966 as a “war on poverty program.” The agency serves over 25,000 seniors annually in San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. The agency operates 17 senior centers, a 70-unit senior housing complex, three residential care facilities for elderly, an adult day health center and Alzheimer’s day care center, and many other significant programs.
Chung has been an active community leader and social advocate for over two decades. She currently chairs the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Leadership Institute, and also chairs the Asian Pacific American Community Partnership.
Among the guests were Julia Ling, executive director for Chinatown Newcomers Center; Macy Mack, board member of the Chinatown Lions Club; and Sandy Mory, development director of Kimochi.
