The Meaning About ‘Mean’

I heard on the news (”Hmong Hunter Found Dead,” Jan. 12) that James Nichols commented, “Hmong people are mean.”

Now, why in the world would you say something like that about the Hmong if you’re trying to prove your innocence? He did this purposely, because he thought he could get away with it, like the whites who in Chai Vang’s case got away with it.

Shout to the Almighty Asian

Emil, I want to shout out to the almighty Asian (”APAs Must Speak Out Against the War,” Jan. 12) who can make change one more time. I’ve seen San Francisco Chronicle’s “Diary of a Sex Slave.”

This article has been up too long since last year and we need to give a big shout out to this newspaper website to shut it down. We should do something about it. This newspaper website is not friendly to our people of color, especially Asian people.

Sex Worker Outrage

The sex worker rights community is outraged at this article (”An Open Letter to San Franciscans,” Oct. 20), which criminalizes and stigmatizes everyone’s sexuality.

The article is just an example of the sex slavery red herring that the global sex worker community has been fighting since the creation of Bush’s anti-prostitution oath. It is a way to distract the easily swayed mainstream moral America away from the real issue of imperialism.

Rub ‘Em Out

As far as I can tell, Kamala Harris, Jean Quan, SAGE and Leland Yee (”Harris, Quan Fight Child Prostitution,” Jan. 12) all support using therapeutic massage as a front for promoting prostitution.

Are Harris, Quan, SAGE, Yee, etc. going to intelligently and directly address studying the issue of regulating “massage” or “massage therapists,” etc. in 2007?

A Better Way to Deal with Life

Yes, being angry, cursing at people, and being a general jerk is a much better way to deal with life. For someone who is against people stereotyping Asians (”Why I Hate Asians,” Jan. 12), you sure like to stereotype what you think Asians should act, feel and say.

Also, saying how you hate Asians multiple times in an article and then saying you love them in the last sentence does not negate your original thoughts.

I was horrified after reading, “Why I Hate Asians.” Immediately after reading this piece I began forming a response, but then found other “letters to the editor” regarding this author.

Most of them were letters of anger and disbelief, just like one I was about to write. But after reading them, my feelings have changed.

Mr. Eng, I respect your beliefs and your right to free speech, but I am extremely saddened by your words of violence, ignorance and prejudice.
