Front-Runner & Oinks

February 16, 2007

Lefty website BeyondChron’s Randy Shaw anointed Asian American Bar Association pres and small business commissioner David Chiu (he hasn’t declared) the “front-runner” in the District 3 race for ‘08 San Francisco supervisor to replace termed-out Board of Supervisors president Aaron Peskin, in the politically moderate, heavily Asian American district of North Beach/Chinatown. Chiu’s support of a gross receipts tax will stir real estate and downtown businesses whose mailers savaged liberal District 4 (Sunset) supervisor candidate Jaynry Mak last November.… OLD MacDONALD HAD A FARM: The Coalition of Asian American Govt. Employees — inspired by its honorary chairman Bill Lee to crash City Hall’s glass ceiling and headed by Rose Chung — will hold their annual Lunar New Year luncheon on Feb. 22, at Empress of China.
