Officers Rally for Robert Ng’s Recovery
April 25, 2007
SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Asian Peace Officers Association (APOA), a nonprofit organization, is appealing for contributions to a May 18 fundraising dinner for stroke victim Officer Robert Ng.
An 11-year veteran of the San Francisco Police Department, Ng suffered a massive stroke last December. Ng survived, but his recovery has been difficult as he continues to fight mobility and memory problems as a result of the stroke.
Complicating the recovery more is that he was the sole provider for two young daughters and an elderly mother. They are entirely dependent on his job’s sick pay, which will end in the next two to three months.
Before Ng’s stroke, he had served most of his career in the San Francisco’s Central Station, which includes Chinatown.
“Robert’s career and life goal was to be a police officer. He knew he had the courage to serve and protect the Asian Community he cared so much about,” said David On, a fellow officer and key dinner organizer.
‘Being fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, Robert showed the community that ‘one of their own’ was out there and ready to help whenever he was needed,” said On.
“Robert has proudly served the citizens of San Francisco diligently for over ten years. Although he would never ask for anything in return, we are asking the community’s assistance in his family’s time of need.”
In addition to the APOA, the San Francisco Police Officers Association, San Francisco Firefighters, and the California State Parole Agents are supporting Robert Ng’s cause.
