SAN FRANCISCO — The new Hotel Kabuki (formerly the Miyako Hotel) and O Izakaya Lounge were unveiled at a grand opening event on Nov. 15 in Japantown.
Joie de Vivre Hospitality CEO Chip Conley, the hotel’s General Manager Jim Gerney and Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, participated in the traditional breaking of the sake barrel to wish the hotel good fortune.
Guest toured the new executive suites, which have deep-soaking tubs and private redwood saunas.
A modern American twist on the popular Japanese izakaya houses (drinking establishments that also serve food, usually shared by everyone at a table), O Izakaya Lounge will feature Japanese cuisine in a sports-themed atmosphere.
“Izakaya houses are an extremely popular and important part of Japanese culture,” Conley said. “We’ve taken that concept and created a warm and welcoming place for friends to socialize and enjoy sports.”
