NEW YORK — Marc Gueco, the tall and handsome 27-year-old from Los Angeles, won the fifth annual Ginoong Pilipinas USA (Mr. Philippines USA) pageant and fund-raiser on Dec. 7 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center on Fifth Avenue.
The event, a celebration of Philippine culture and Filipino men in America, was organized by Ginoong Pilipinas USA, a community service-based organization known for its humanitarian efforts. This year, the organization donated the event’s proceeds to the California wildfire victims through the Southern California Wildfire Relief Efforts of the American Red Cross.
Gueco, who believes that respecting others marks a real Filipino gentleman, received $1,000 cash and an opportunity to represent the country at the Mr. International event held annually in Asia.
CBS 2 News anchor Kristine Johnson hosted the program, while Broadway star Ali Ewoldt, who played Cosette in the Broadway revival of Les Miserables, was the special guest performer. Both Johnson and Ewoldt are of Filipino descent, and indicated their interest in reconnecting with their roots.
