Wells Fargo Donates $50,000 To Chinese Culture Foundation

January 28, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO — Wells Fargo donated $50,000 to the Chinese Culture Foundation’s Campaign for a New Beginning on Jan. 18 to help build the foundation’s endowment and ensure the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco’s cultural programming for the future.

The center’s programs range from lectures, workshops and classes to art exhibitions, dance, musical performances, and cultural exchanges — all aimed to give the public a deeper knowledge of historical as well as contemporary Chinese and Chinese American culture.

Maggie Mui, Wells Fargo senior vice president and director of Specialized Solutions, presented the check to campaign co-chairs Dr. Rolland Lowe and Dr. Colin Wong at the center, located in Chinatown.

“We’d like to thank Wells Fargo for their generous donation. They have consistently been a supporter of the Chinese American community and the Chinese Culture Center for years,” Lowe said.

In recognition of the donation, the CCC is naming a classroom in Wells Fargo’s honor.

“One of the reasons we chose to donate to the foundation is because of their intense and meaningful program, “In Search of Roots,” which teaches the younger generation about their heritage,” Mui said. “Wells Fargo embraces the diversity, culture and art of our community, and this program is a good example of that. We believe our partnership with the CCC will really help the community.”

Mui added that Wells Fargo is proud to not only be supportive of the CCC financially, but also in terms of human resources. Wells Fargo employees Tzu-Chen Lee and Gin Ho are both on the board of directors of the center.

In January 2006, the renovated, state-of-the-art Chinese Culture Center facility opened, featuring 20,000 square feet of office, gallery/exhibition and meeting space.

To mark its “new beginning,” the center plans to launch a variety of new programs, still under development, to become the premiere venue for Chinese culture and art in the S.F. Bay Area.
