Edison Chen Quits Movie Business
Edison Chen, the man who would be king of Hong Kong’s entertainment world, has quit the business to — what else? — find his soul. It might be too late, though, for the women he’s ruined through thousands of explicit pictures and videos, but Chen hopes to regain some sense of self again through charity work. “Let this be a lesson to all … I’ve failed as a role model,” Chen said. Right, because no other rising star with dubious talents has ever been caught with their pants down on film and mass-spammed across the Internet. Hey, this is America: Sex tapes launch careers here.
Brenda Song Bites Disney Apple
Watch out Vanessa Hudgens, Brenda Song is moving up in the Disney food chain — but she can keep her clothes on. In fact, the Carmichael-born actress, who is Hmong and Thai American, is a regular fixture at Fresno’s Hmong New Year gathering, where she wears the traditional costumes of the ethnic Chinese minority, proving that her role as Disney’s spoiled, rich hotel heiress is just a character for the down-to-earth teen.
Kal Penn Escapes WonderCon
Harold and Kumar may have escaped from Guantanamo Bay in their sequel to be released April 25, but only Kal Penn escaped the panel discussion at Saturday’s WonderCon event at the Moscone Convention Center. Korean American actor John Cho did the usual Q & A, but Penn has been campaigning full-time for Barack Obama. Could it also have been anticipating stupid questions about White Castle burgers and enduring Cho’s serial farting on set that kept the vegetarian South Asian actor away? Penn obviously prefers political dialogue.
Local Viet to be Next Top Model
Tina Nguyen of San Jose has made it past the first callback for the upcoming season of America’s Next Top Model. Too bad none of the past contestants have been able to land the holy grail of modeldom: first-name-basis recognition on a magazine cover.
Ho Ho Ho for Hudgens
The rumor mill has been busy with news of Vanessa Hudgen’s alleged sex video with Zac Efron, her boyfriend and High School Musical co-star. The U.K.’s The Sun claims that Hudgens appears as Efron’s ultimate Christmas present, lying under the tree in nothing but a Santa hat and red thong cooing seductively, “I’ve been a good girl this year,” before … well, you know how kids get excited on Christmas morning.
