Brown & Toland Supports Campaign
April 9, 2008
One of the leading partners of the S.F. Hep B Free campaign is Brown & Toland Medical Group, a comprehensive, multi-specialty independent practice association serving 200,000 Bay Area residents.
Based in San Francisco, the group consists of more than 1,500 physicians, board-certified in 43 different specialties, practicing at California Pacific Medical Center, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center, UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion.
Brown & Toland — a three-time winner of the prestigious Pacific Business Group on Health Blue Ribbon Award for medical excellence and the largest network of independent physicians in S.F. — became involved in the campaign when medical director Mark Finch was invited by the S.F. Department of Public Health to participate in initial talks about the project in June 2007.
“We knew immediately that this was something we’d like to get involved in,” marketing manager John R. Fisher III said. “We are always looking for opportunities to promote wellness and to keep people healthy. All our doctors are very supportive of this cause.”
<>To spread awareness of the disease to their patients, Brown & Toland has posted information on its Web site and published an article in their consumer magazine and quarterly newsletter.
Brown & Toland will be collaborating with CPMC to host free hep B screenings at the fourth annual Asian Heritage Street Celebration, which will take place on May 17 in Japantown.
“Raising awareness about this vaccination is critical,” Finch said. “We’re proud to be supporting this campaign, and we’re committed to making this disease truly preventable.”
“It’s marvelous to have Brown & Toland as an active partner, since they represent about 75 percent of all the clinicians in the city,” Janet Zola of the S.F. Department of Public Health said. “They have stepped up to the plate in a supportive and active manner.”
