MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — More than 100 people attended a business plan competition on April 5 arranged by the Chinese American Biopharmaceutical Society.
Companies made a seven-minute presentation to a panel of judges, who evaluated the teams based on personnel, science and other factors.
The moderators were Liming Yang, Ph.D., and Tao Huang, Ph.D., J.D., co-chairs of the society’s Business and Career Development Committee. The judges were Fred Gregarus, J.D., of Fenwick & West; Marietta Wu, Ph.D., MBA, of Burrill & Company; Chen Yu, M.D., MBA, of Vivo Ventures; Min Cui, Ph.D., of Bay City Capital; Shawn Liu, Ph.D., of Bayer Corp; angel investor James Guo, Ph.D.; and Lee Ting of WR Hambrecht Ventures I and II.
The San Francisco-based nonprofit group was established not only to educate the public on the progress of biotech and pharmaceutical fields, but also to serve bio/pharmaceutical professionals who are either of Chinese heritage or with professional interests in China. The majority of the group’s members are Chinese scientists, entrepreneurs and students/postdocs in biomedical sciences, working in San Francisco Bay Area bio/pharmaceutical industries, universities and research institutes.
