Francisco Guilledo
Nicknamed “Pancho Villa,” this boxer from Negros Occidental, Philippines, rose from obscurity to win the World Flyweight Boxing Championship in 1923. He was never knocked out in his entire boxing career, but died suddenly at the age of 23 from complications following a tooth extraction. Villa was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1994.
Brian Viloria
Twenty-seven-year-old Filipino American fighter from Honolulu, Hawai‘i, nicknamed the “Hawaiian Punch,” Viloria won the 1999 National Golden Gloves and World Amateur Boxing Championships. In September 2005, he won the WBC flyweight title, knocking out Eric Ortiz in the first round, contributing to a 20-bout winning streak. Recently he scored a third-round KO against Fred Heberto Valdez in a 10-round lopsided fight in Mexico.
Nonito Donaire
This 25-year-old Filipino American from General Santos City in Mindanao, Philippines, is nicknamed the “Filipino Flash.” He won the WBO Asia Pacific flyweight title in 2002, the NABF super flyweight title in 2006, and the IBF and IBO flyweight title in 2007. His current record is 19-1-0 with 12 wins by knockout.
Rey Bautista
The 22-year-old Filipino boxer from Bohol, Philippines, known as “Boom Boom Bautista” became the number one contender for the World Boxing Organization super bantamweight title when he won in a unanimous decision against Sergio Manuel Medina in May 2007. Recently Bautista knocked out Genaro Camargo of Mexico in the second of a 12-round match in Cubao, Quezon City. He is currently the WBO Intercontinental super bantamweight champion.
Ana Julaton
Nicknamed “The Hurricane,” this 27-year-old Filipina American Boxer from Daly City was the 2006 San Francisco Golden Gloves champion. In her professional debut in November 2007, she defeated Rita Valentini, knocking her down twice in four rounds. She is trained by the legendary Freddie Roach, who also trains Pacquiao. Currently undefeated, she is called a phenom by many boxing analysts.
