SAN FRANCISCO — Over 200 people gathered at the Fairmont Hotel on June 5 for a reception welcoming the Canadian city of Victoria, British Columbia, to San Francisco. The day marked United Airlines’ first direct daily two-hour flight between the two cities.
At the event, Victoria Mayor Alan Lowe expressed interest in expanding tourism to and from the Bay Area.
Canadian tourism officials hope the connection will help revive the waning industry that continues to struggle with passengers’ confusion about passport laws, border lineups and high gasoline prices, according to CTV News.
The daily service on United Airlines will be operated by United Express with a 66-seat CRJ 700.
