Donate auction items
Join honorary chairpersons U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, Assemblywoman Fiona Ma and Mayor Gavin Newsom in supporting the San Francisco Hep B Free Be A Hero gala fundraising dinner at the Chinese Culture Center in the Chinatown Hilton on Thursday Sept. 18.
The gala will include a silent auction, where attendees will have a chance to bid on items, including an Escape from the Rock Cruise on the Blue and Gold Fleet, two tickets for Beach Blanket Babylon, a gift certificate for a signature dinner for two at Tommy Toy’s Cuisine and much more.
The campaign is currently looking for donations for additional auction items. All donations are tax deductible, and the generous donation will be featured as a silent auction prize along with your name and/or company.
“I do a lot of community and political work, and this is one of the few diseases that we can actually do something about,” said Mary Jung, a volunteer for the Be A Hero dinner. “This will be a great event, and I encourage anyone to donate anything they can.”
This event is S.F. Hep B Free Campaign’s major fundraiser, and money raised will be used to further the campaign’s goal to make San Francisco the first city in America to be free of hepatitis B.
Hepatitis B is a silent killer-causing 80 percent of all liver cancers-and the city has the highest rate of liver cancer in the country. This disease can be prevented with a safe and effective vaccine. Proceeds from the gala will support a massive outreach and public awareness campaign.
“I think the work currently being conducted on behalf of Hep B screening and education is critically important for our community, and I am proud to say as a member of the Board that Saint Francis Memorial Hospital had taken an early lead in helping with community screening efforts,” said Caryl Ito, vice president of the Saint Francis Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees. “I recently lost my only brother to liver cancer and personally feel our community needs more awareness about this potentially devastating health issue.”
