Ohio Man Sentenced for Sending Hate Mail
August 27, 2008
For almost twenty years David Tuason of Pepper Pike, Clevland, sent over 200 racially charged hate mail letters all across the nation, targeting black and mixed-raced men . Tuason, 46, pleaded guilty in May to six counts of mailing threatening communications and two counts of threatening interstate communications, according to a report by Joe Milicia of the Associated Press. He was sentenced on Tuesday for 3 years and 10 months in a Cleveland prison. Among the recipients of the letters were Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, former Cleveland Cavaliers center Larry Nance and his daughter.
Tuason, of Filipino descent, apologized in court stating that he never intended to hurt anyone and that he “never really meant” what he had written. Tuason explained that reasoning behind the threatening letters was because of a black man that ’stole’ the girlfriend he planned to marry which contributed to his state of emotions.
