Not All Fun and Game Shows
Although these Japanese game show remakes in the U.S. are popular, there’s a lot of criticism that some don’t have that same quality that you can see in the shows produced in Japan (“Cool Japan,” Sept 12).
For example, the U.S. version of Hole in the Wall is getting a lot of negative reviews for not being in any way fun or amusing like the Japanese version known as Brain Wall (a.k.a. “Human Tetris” on YouTube).
The Japanese-produced game shows are supposed to be fun, funny and lighthearted, and the contestants love to mess around. The American versions are very competitive, to the point where it’s just not as amusing as watching the Japanese versions on YouTube.

I’ve always thought that Wipe Out has been the best Japanese-inspired American game show. They make it their own and have fun contestants and enough variety in the challenges to make each week entertaining.

Justice for Filipino Vets
I don’t see what Sarah Palin has to do with this bill. A petition has been going around for so long appealing to Nancy Pelosi to bring this to the floor. Does this not show that Pelosi has only been giving lip service and has never had the heart and mind to care because there is no big political gain in this?
Maybe it is McCain after all who might give ear to this cause, and you’ve been embracing the wrong party for too long.

It is both lack of political will and respect that continue to stall S. 1315 and deny our Filipino World War II veterans the honor and dignity due to them (Emil Amok, Sept 11).
It’s ironic if not totally insulting that America is willing to spend quarter of a billion dollars a day in Iraq and Afghanistan but turns a deaf ear to the just recognition sought by the Filipino veterans for the last 60 years.
Is it because these Filipino veterans are now too weak to raise their voices in protest? Or simply because of their brown color? Or are their sacrifices just too old in history and no longer worth anything to those with political ambition today?

Hmong American Invisibility
The Hmong were recruited and exploited in our cause during the Vietnam War, then were brought to this country and largely left to their own devices, strangers in a strange land (Voices From the Community, Sept. 12). In the course of the three decades, as the authors demonstrate, they have been “invisible” but for that hunter headline and the likes of Prof. Kaplan’s stereotyping.
But I find it surprising, and encouraging, that the Hmong themselves have produced, within the brief span of three decades, this collective in the face of these odds.

Top Model’s Sheena
I love Sheena’s ghetto eloquence already. She raps about da issues y’all. Hooch!

From what I have seen so far on America’s Next Top Model, Sheena is awesome (Asian Reality Check, Sept 12). She is strong, sexy and independent.
I do not care whether she places first or last, but the fact that she is even there and presenting to America such a fine representation of what it means to be Asian American is more than enough.
