The always present racist view that occurs out of ignorance and fear of the unknown. This comic strip could just as easily depicted a straight man talking to a homosexual aquaintance and stating to him “Have you ever been with Elton John?” and the reply could’ve been ” No, but I know someone who dated Rock Hudson”. (or something simular.)
People are so closed minded and discriminate against those who are not just like them and most of those who do will deny it (even to themselves). The false assumption that all Asians must know eachother and all homosexuals must know eachother is a prime example of discrimination without knowledge. One person with this thought process may consider him/herself to not have any issues or problems with foreigners or homosexuals, yet they will make comments lending an obvious discriminatory thought process.
I remember when I was young hearing another student telling a group of kids that his father was an Opthomologist and he said that Asians can’t see well because of the shape of their eyes. I was so enraged at that kid that I went up to him and said, “If he really is an opthomologist and he is making that statement, he needs to go back to school !”
We need to embrace our differences! If everyone looked and talked exactly alike, could you imagine how aweful our world would really be ?
