Hundreds of Bay Area kids bowled with their local police and public safety officers on the 44 lanes of Serra Bowl on Saturday, June 6th. The lanes were filled all day long with officers and kids bowling alongside one another while their family members smiled and enjoyed the day.
The police departments of Colma, Daly City, and San Francisco along with Serra Bowl sponsored the 18th annual Kops & Kids free family day event. The goal of the day is for kids to meet their local public safety officers in a fun, relaxed way and foster new friendships. According to the hundreds of kids and their families it was a great way to get together and celebrate their new friendships.
The event is the largest of its kind endorsed by over 25 law enforcement organizations and over 16 public safety agencies. Every year community fire departments, emergency medical services, and public service organizations participate.
In addition to the event sponsors, participants included the San Francisco Sheriffs; SFPD Recruitment, Harley Solos, Hondas, Adult Probation, Youth Services, Mounted Police, PAL and Reserve officers. Also present was the U.S. Coast Guard; Daly City Fire, Colma Fire, our military branch and the police unit of UCSF, to name a few. In addition to free bowling for kids, there was a special appearance of Elvis and the Lawman, as well as a canine patrol demo, a jumpy jump for the kids and plenty of free prizes.
VIP dignitaries came to present proclamations and greetings from the Governor’s office, State Senator Leland Yee, Mayor’s offices of Daly City and Colma, the Police Chiefs of Colma, Daly City and San Francisco as well as Assemblywoman Fiona Ma’s office. The officials declared the event as one of the most important community events of the year.
The event was the kick off for the “Kids Bowl Free” program endorsed by twelve police departments in the Bay Area. Over 200,000 kids from 600 schools in the Bay get to bowl free all summer long. They get to bowl two free games every day. This effort provides kids with a safe environment when they are most at risk. Serra Bowl, Palo Alto Bowl and Bel Mateo Bowl are the sponsor bowling centers for this program.
Serra Bowl is located at 3301 Junipero Serra Blvd in Daly City (across from Colma BART station). For more information, contact Serra Bowl at 650-992-3444 or go to www.SerraBowl.com
