Locke’s Town Mom, Connie King Passes Away
Connie King, a Locke community leader who fought to improve and preserve the historic Delta town as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of its Chinese pioneers, died recently at age 86. She died in her sleep of natural causes, said her daughter, Regina “Ginny” Gee.
Mrs. King was known as the honorary mayor of Locke, which was built along the Sacramento River and settled by the Chinese in 1915.
Mrs. King was born to Chinese immigrants in Isleton in 1923. She had a daughter from a brief early marriage when she married Tom J. King in 1949 and moved to Locke. She had a son with King, a radio technician at the Sacramento Army Depot who died in 1997.
Mrs. King was an artistic painter who managed the River Road Art Gallery. She was on the board of the Locke Foundation and volunteered at the town museum.
Besides her civic contributions, she was revered in the community for many personal kindnesses. She translated for Chinese who didn’t speak English. She looked after laborers, mostly single, when they fell ill and pledged to contact their families if they should die alone and far from home.
“She was a very giving person who never thought about herself,” Gee said. “She was the town mom.”

Felicia Tang aka Felicia Lee Murdered
Pasadena, CA - Brian Randone, who was a contestant in the TV beauty pageant “The Sexiest Bachelor in America” pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murdering his girlfriend, a former adult-movie actress.
Randone, 45, was arraigned in Superior Court and remained in custody on $2 million bail. He could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted of beating and choking Felicia Lee on Sept. 11 in their suburban Monrovia apartment.
Detectives allege Randone tortured the 31-year-old Lee, noting they found dozens of recent injuries on her body after Randone called 911 to report she was unconscious.
Deputy District Attorney Philip Wojdak said investigators believe Lee was suffocated against a hard surface without a weapon being used. Judge Terry Smerling called the injuries gruesome and sealed photos of Lee’s body.
Lee appeared in several adult movies under the name Felicia Tang. The Singapore-born woman also had bit parts in the movies “Rush Hour 2″ and “The Fast and the Furious” and had modeled for the Playboy television channel. She had moved in with Randone a few months before her death.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 9.

Assemblywoman Fiona Ma Presents 5,000 Chemical Free Baby Bottles to SF Non-Profit
San Francisco - Despite a ferociously fought lobbying battle, California’s Toxics-Free Babies and Toddlers Act (SB 797) failed to garner the needed votes to ban the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) from food and beverage containers designed for children aged three and under.
In response to this legislative defeat, Green to Grow founders, husband and wife Michael Ritterbrown and Shelley Aronoff, announced the company will address this economic and social injustice to underserved communities by donating more than $5,000 worth of BPA-free baby bottles to San Francisco’s Compass Community Services.
California State Assembly member Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco) presented the donation on behalf of the Los Angeles-based BPA-free baby bottle and accessories manufacturer at the Compass Community Services facility at 995 Market Street in San Francisco.
“If something is thought to cause harm then the law should reflect caution, especially when the health of a child is in jeopardy,” said Assemblywoman Fiona Ma.
