NAPCA Ready to Help Seniors with Medicare Part D Enrollment
Seattle, WA — Now is the time for Asian Pacific Islander (API) seniors to check their prescription drugs plans and make sure the drugs they need are covered at a reasonable cost. Medicare Part D Annual Coordinated Election Period (AEP) started this past Sunday November 15th through the end of the calendar year, December 31st. This six week period is vital for seniors to check their prescription drug plans, because if they do not starting in January, seniors could be locked in a plan that is not best suited for their needs.
Every senior should do a ‘check-up’ of their plan to make sure they are covered by the best option for them, as some plans might have changed in price or coverage. It is also important for those who are eligible but not yet enrolled to take this opportunity to enroll and take advantage of the program and avoid incurring premium penalties.
NAPCA’s Helpline is available to help Asian language speaking seniors in particular. Helpline staff are fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Vietnamese and are equipped to counsel seniors on details about different drug plan options. NAPCA staff are also experienced in helping callers choose a plan that will provide them more coverage at a lower cost.

APALC Attorney Wins Social Justice Prize from Boalt Hall
The Thelton E. Henderson Center for Social Justice at Boalt Hall announced its 2009 award winners and has named Yungsuhn Park recipient of its coveted Social Justice Prize. The Social Justice Prize is given to one Boalt Hall graduate a year who is pursuing a career dedicated to social justice and best exemplifies the intellectual rigor, integrity, courage and vision that are distinctive of the Honorable Thelton E. Henderson, a trailblazing civil rights attorney and judge.
“I am deeply humbled to receive this honor and would like to share this recognition with my clients, colleagues, and mentors–without their partnership and support, my work would not be possible. This award has re-affirmed my personal commitment to fighting injustice in our communities through legal advocacy and community empowerment,” said Yungsuhn Park.
“In a few short years as an attorney, she has emerged as a force in the Asian American community and in the legal world, turning tough cases into victories, inspiring clients to speak out and fight back, and making justice real in our communities. All of us at APALC are so proud that the Thelton E. Henderson Center for Social Justice recognized what those of us who work with Yungsuhn see everyday, that she is a brilliant, effective advocate for social justice,” said Julie A. Su, Litigation Director at APALC.
