On Lok Hosts Annual Spring Banquet

SAN FRANCISCO – On Lok’s annual Spring Banquet, scheduled April 29 at the San Francisco InterContinental Hotel, will honor outstanding community members while raising funds for the nonprofit organization, which provides complete healthcare and social services for frail seniors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

The reception will commence with a reception at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the event program from 7 to 9 p.m. Sharon Chin, award-winning news reporter at KCBS Ch. 5, will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.

“This year, our theme is ‘Celebrating Service,’ which signifies our gratitude for the volunteers who help us improve the lives of local seniors,” said Ian McCuaig, Director of Development. “This event is a tremendous opportunity to recognize and honor those who have supported our mission for the past 38 years.”

During the Spring Banquet, On Lok will pay tribute to members of the community who have bolstered On Lok’s efforts to serve local seniors through a variety of programs including On Lok Lifeways, the 30th Street Senior Center and On Lok Housing.

Outstanding Volunteer: Ruth Wong

A steward member of Friends of On Lok, Ms. Wong has served on the board of directors for many years and in many capacities including Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer. Currently, Ruth works as the receptionist at On Lok’s Herbst Intergenerations Center.

Outstanding Philanthropists: Wilson Tang and Sharon Yow

“Giving is instinct for us; it just feels right to give back,” said Mr. Tang when asked why he and his partner, Sharon Yow, have given so generously to On Lok. Since joining Friends of On Lok in 1988, Ms. Yow has held almost every position within the Friends of On Lok Board, serving a President twice. She is now serving on On Lok, Inc.’s Board of Directors for the third time.

Outstanding Organization: Institute on Aging

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, IOA is a frequent and powerful partner in On Lok’s efforts on behalf of frail seniors.

In addition to honoring Ms. Wong, Mr. Tang, Ms. Yow and the IOA this year’s event is designed to raise funds to support On Lok’s mission to assist medically-frail seniors in living at home. On Lok’s core program, On Lok Lifeways, provides complete, integrated medical and social services that allow the elderly to continue living in their own homes while receiving the care they need.

Since opening its first center 38 years ago, On Lok Lifeways has grown to 10 centers in San Francisco, Southern Alameda and Santa Clara Counties, serving more than 1,000 local seniors.

The Spring Banquet concludes with a raffle featuring prizes including $1,000 cash, a weekend for two at the InterContinental San Francisco Hotel, and numerous others.
