EquityBlog.org kicks off “Race and America’s Future Virtual Book Club,” a seix-week online discussion to engage Americans on a national dialogue on race.

Inspired by the book Uncommon Common Ground by Angela Glover Blackwell, Manuel Pastor, and Stewart Kwoh, these conversations adress key issues to figure out how America can push closer towards a post-racial society.

Next week’s installment will feature Stewart Kwoh, the Founding President and Executive Director of the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC).

»Vice President Biden addresses U.S.-Japan Council’s inaugural conference

Washington, DC – Vice President Joe Biden was the keynote speaker for the recent U.S.-Japan Council Inaugural Annual Conference. Biden addressed the crowd of Japanese and Japanese American leaders by stating that the US needed the US-Japan partnership to flourish, especially when it comes to China.

The opening session was followed by a series of panesl discussions to discuss new ways of collaborating with the two nations.

Established in April 2009, the U.S.-Japan Council (USJC) is a non-profit organization that focuses on building people-to-people relations to strengthen the US-Japan relationship.

Among the Council’s memebers are alumni of the Japanese American Leadership Delegation Program (JALD) which sends Japanese American leaders to Japan.

»East West Players to stage Crimes of the Heart

East West Players (EWP) continues its 45th Anniversary season, themed Shake it Up, with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley and directed by Leslie Ishii. The cast includes Maya Erskine, Kimiko Gelman, Elizabeth Liang, Hiwa Bourne, Tim Chiou, and Jason Sino.

Crimes of the Heart will be staged at the David Henry Hwang Theater at the Union Center for the Arts at 120 Judge John Aiso Street in Los Angeles from November 11 to December 5. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm.

»ChinaSF opens its newest office in Beijing

ChinaSF recently opened its newest office in the Chinese capital city of Beijing. The move comes in response to the growing demand for greater business exchange between the US and China—the world’s two largest economies.

ChinaSF is a public-private initiative of the San Francisco Center for Economic Development (SFCED) along with the City of San Francisco’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) and Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting. In addition to the Beijing office, ChinaSF also has offices in Shanghai and its headquarters in San Francisco.
