You’re Invited to Attend
5th Annual B a Hero Gala
This year, we are honoring U.S. Representative Mike Honda. In 2006, Congressman Honda helped launch the Hep B Free movement when he was publicly tested at the largest ever one-day Hep B screening event. Just this past May, Congressmen Honda set another milestone, co-founding the Congressional Viral Hepatitis Caucus, a bi-partisan effort to reduce the growing viral hepatitis epidemic. Rep. Honda also serves on the Appropriations Committee and is Chair Emeritus of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.
Also being honored is Lloyd Dean, President and CEO of Dignity Health, the fifth largest hospital system in the nation. Dean was the first hospital CEO to meet with Hep B Free and Dignity Health hosted the first Hep B Free planning meeting.
The evening will be an exciting, informative and fun-filled night with this year’s theme: “Don’t Gamble with Your Liver!” Mayor Ed Lee will help kick off festivities and our lively co-emcees are returning: Honorary Hep B Free Chairperson Assemblywoman Fiona Ma and ABC7/KGO-TV News Anchor Alan Wang. We will also be continuing to share the evening this year with our partners at the SF Hep C Task Force, and are especially proud to feature participation and increasing collaboration with all the Hep B Free Bay Area efforts — Alameda County, San Mateo County, and Santa Clara County.
The B a Hero Gala is the biggest night of the year towards raising awareness and funds to end viral hepatitis in America. Proceeds from the event fund AsianWeek Foundation’s participation in Hep B Free activities. In just the last year alone, we have helped organize or participate in 25 outreach and screening activities, held the largest joint Hep B and Hep C screening in the country, and are close to reaching 1,000 doctors signing up for the SF Hep B Free Clinician Honor Roll and pledging to screen and vaccinate all of their at-risk patients.
There will be CASINO games to go with the Don’t Gamble With Your Liver theme! Guests can play pai gow and black jack to redeem raffle tickets. 2 chips can be traded in for 1 raffle ticket; prizes in the raffle include round trip South West Airline tickets!
2 chips can be purchased for $5 or 10 chips for $20.
Guests will also be able to buy RAFFLE TICKETS: 1 – for $5 or 5 for $20.
The event will also feature an amazing silent auction
