Mr. Hyphen

Mr. Hyphen offers a unique opportunity to celebrate and highlight five outstanding Asian American men who are serving their community and devoted to a cause. Their contestants will showcase their skills and charisma in three rounds: Talent, Style and Q&A to see who will walk away with the coveted title of Mr. Hyphen and $1,000 for the nonprofit of his choice.

This year’s the show is hosted by Mr. Hyphen 2011 Terry Park and Founder of RAMA Ryan Takemiya. Mr. Hyphen’s judging panel includes the following community movers and shakers: Tanzila Ahmed, Lisa Lee, William Nguyen, Tamiko Wong, and Eddy Zheng.

Hyphen magazine was conceived in 2002 by San Francisco Bay Area journalists and community leaders who saw the need for a publication about Asian America that would go beyond Lucy Liu, sushi and yet another examination of the “model minority” story. With award-winning design and fresh perspectives that aren’t just about identity issues, Hyphen covers the artists and change-makers who are shaping what it means to be Asian American. By showcasing people outside the boundaries of stereotypes, Hyphen acts as a cultural catalyst, inspiring its readership to branch out — to do, think and create.
