Wu Yee Children’s Services will highlight upcoming opening of a new Child Development Center in the Bayview neighborhood at the annual Butterfly Social awards dinner on Friday, October 11 at the Hilton Financial District.

The evening’s theme, “Taking Flight,” describes Wu Yee’s remarkable progress in the past year, from developing new leadership to opening the new child care center this fall.

“This year’s Butterfly Social celebrates an exciting time for Wu Yee,” said CEO Monica Walters. “We’re on the move and reaching out city-wide to serve children and families in need. Our annual awards dinner lets us recognize some of the people and partner organizations who have helped serve our community and support Wu Yee’s growth.”

The Butterfly Social celebrates leaders and community groups for their leadership in service to San Francisco’s children and families in need. This year’s honorees are The Bay Area Discovery Museum, the Bayview and Chinatown branches of the San Francisco YMCA , and community volunteer Nancy Lim-Yee, Program Director at Chinatown Child Development Center. Emcees will be Lloyd LaCuesta, recently retired after many years as a newscaster with KTVU Bay Area News Channel 2, and Doris Grover, Chinatown community volunteer.

The Butterfly Social is an elegant evening featuring no-host cocktail reception, gourmet dinner by Hilton Executive Chef Steven C. Parker (winner of the 2008 North America Dolce International Executive Chef of the Year Award), silent auction, raffle, performances by the White Tiger Lion Dance Troupe and Wu Yee Lok Yuen Lion Dancers, and more!

Founded in 1977 by social workers concerned about the challenges faced by new immigrants in Chinatown, Wu Yee Children’s Services has grown to a city-scale agency serving vulnerable families from throughout our diverse population, and is the city’s largest provider of Early Head Start. Wu Yee provides early child education, family support services, referrals to quality child care, and training and support for child care providers at five sites in Chinatown, the Tenderloin and Visitacion Valley. A sixth will open in Bayview/Hunters Point in November of 2013.

Tickets are $175. The event will take place from 6-9:30 pm. The Hilton Financial District is located at 750 Kearny St. in San Francisco. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit wuyee.org or call Mark Green at (415) 230-7510.
