A reception to honor the quality coverage and empowerment of Asian Americans by veteran political columnist Samson Wong will take place on Thursday, October 24 at Drake Bar and Lounge located 508 4th St. from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Potstickers by Samson Wong first appeared in 1996 and has since provided extensive political coverage of Asians in San Francisco politics. Wong writes with an APA twist infused with his 25 years in business, education, election campaigns, voting rights, government, transportation and US-Asia relationships. Most of all, he pens with the values of an immigrant family son and Bay Area native raised in a laundry business. With more than 600 columns, Potstickers has garnered recognition and awards from California Assembly and Senate, SF Office of Mayor, New American Media, SF League of Women Voters, Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination, SF Organization of Chinese Americans, SF Bay Area Publicity Club, Chinese Real Estate Association of America, San Francisco Planning and Urban Research and Asian Pacific Democratic Club. Potstickers is the voice on Asian American politics. All funds raised go towards supporting AsianWeek.com and the Potstickers column. Read Samson’s recent columns here: Potstickers columns or juicy Twitter tidbits here: @SFPotstickers.
Your donation will keep the “Potstickers” column going on AsianWeek.com for the coming twelve months by covering:
WHAT NEXT FOR THE MAYORS – Fighting crime is critical to Jean Quan’s ’14 re-election in Oakland and is there a second term in ’15 and beyond for San Francisco’s Ed Lee?
WATERFRONT WARRIORS ARENA – Ready for hoops by 2017? Will skeptics emerge after an overrated America’s Cup?
GOVERNOR NEXT, IF JERRY DOESN’T: Controller John Chiang, Attorney General Kamala Harris could step up in 2014, if not 2018. Otherwise, it’s Chiang for Treasurer and Harris for ’14 re-election with Leland Yee for Secretary for State, Betty Yee and Fiona Ma for Board of Equalization.
CLEANPOWER-SF, IS IT DEAD?: Major APA reservations about San Francisco “clean power” helped sink it in 2013 but some in City Hall still want the utility rate buster.
INTRA-ASIAN SOUTH BAY BATTLE: Dean of APAs in Congress faces upstart as Rep. Mike Honda battles former Obama White House official Ro Khanna.
APA VS. LGBT: Will San Francisco Board of Supervisors President David Chiu end a string of LGBT representation in the 17th Assembly District?
TWISTS & TWISTED: Little fun factoids all year long …
