“What is the big deal!! When you do a live show it is sometimes neccessary to fill in with prerecord section in some instances,” cries Robyn, a commenter on a Canadian news outlet, in response to recent news about the 2000 Sydney Olympic opening performance. The Sydney Symphony Orchestra officially acknowledged that their performance during the opening ceremonies was “entirely prerecorded” and that part of the music was recorded by another symphony: their rivals, Melbourne. Members of the Asian American community respond, “If there was so much controversy about the Chinese lip-syncing or “faking” performances in Beijing, why isn’t there any fuss about the Australians in Sydney?” is there a double standard? Bryan Clay brings Olympic decathlon title back to the United States, and it wasn’t even close.

BEIJING – The world’s greatest athlete may or may not eat Wheaties for breakfast, but we know that he drinks traditional Japanese rice soup every New Year’s eve.

Bryan Clay finished the 10-discipline decathlon competition with 8,791 points on Friday, a whopping 240 ahead of the silver medalist. It was the most one-sided decathlon triumph since the 1972 Munich Games. Read more

Natasha Kai and the Women’s US Soccer Team defeated Brazil today 1-0 in a surprising victory for the gold medal. It was the third time in four Olympics. Throughout the match the US was undermanned and outplayed but Carli Lloyd came through to score in the sixth minute of extra time. The Americans soared across the field, jumping, and shouting as the final whistle blew.
