Letters to the Editor: Escaping School Violence, Resenting the Model Minority, Take This Bag And Shove It, and Emil for Sale?
Escaping School Violence
The article “Addressing School Violence” (Voices From the Community, May 30) illustrates some reasons why Asian parents and students oppose racial integration of schools.
Most Asian and many white students attend schools to learn and prepare for college and the professional world. They want decent academic standards and a safe environment. -
Letters to the Editor: Investing in Higher Education, Conservative Asian American Christians, Rick Quan Fired
Investing in Higher Education
I was the Student Body President at San Francisco State University (”Young, Broke and Educated,” Beyond Borders, May 23). We drove to Sacramento and Long Beach time and time again to fight the Trustees and the Governor over fee increases. Our fee increases are actually tax increases because the fees we pay […] -
Letters to the Editor: KPIX: The New KRON?, Supporting Prop E, Jindal: First APA President?, and Bad Advice
KPIX: The New KRON?
KPIX made a really bad mistake of firing Rick Quan and others from the station (“Rick Quan Fired,” Emil Amok, May 16). Their attempt to get more ratings by competing against the king of 10 p.m. news (KTVU) was a terrible idea. It also made a lot of fans of Family Guy […] -
Letters to the Editor
APAs Driven Out, Real Estate Prices, Recalling Mom, and the Real Patriots
It is more a matter of socioeconomics than ethnicity (“‘Driven Out’ Of San Francisco?” Potstickers, May 9). San Francisco is only getting more expensive to live in. Do you really think Gavin Newsom cares about working-class families? Does he even know what one […] -
Letters to the Editor: Japanese and Muslim Americans, Obama & Reverand Wright, He Banged
Japanese and Muslim Americans: Shared Histories
It’s history repeating itself; the chain needs to be broken (“Joined in Outrage,” Editorial, May 2). It’s really upsetting and awful what Muslim, Middle Eastern and South Asian Americans are subjected to in America today. Taking the model straight from the internment camp process is disgusting. It’s just an utter […] -
Letters to the Editor: Obama and APAs, ‘21′: Playing The Game, China and the Olympics
Obama and APAs
In Obama’s books, we can glean a few insights about his attitudes toward Asians (“‘Yellow Peril’ Helps Clinton Sink Obama in Pennsylvania,” Emil Amok, April 25): 1) Obama’s black best friend in high school told him: “Asians are worse than whites.”; 2) His grandmother would tell him about the “Chinese who control the […] -
Letters to the Editor: China: Learning from the Best, ‘Forbidden Kingdom’ Sounds Familiar?, On-Liner Asian American History, Not Folding Over ‘21′
China: Learning From the Best
Yes, China has plenty to learn from the world’s leading democratic free countries (“Post-Game Wrap on Tibet,” Emil Amok, April 18).
China should take a page from the United States on how to treat unruly natives and start a military campaign to kill as many fighting age Tibetans as possible, like Uncle […] -
Letters to the Editor: Asian American Studies, Click to BlAsian Love, Rev. Wright and Obama, and more…
This year is the 40th anniversary of the strike at San Francisco State University that forced the administration to accept Ethnic Studies as part of the university’s curriculum (“Asian American Studies Now,” Editorial, April 18). Today, I

Asian Americans, China, Tibet And The Olympics
The spirit embodied in the Olympic torch is one of peace, friendship and progress (“An Asian American Viewpoint on China, Tibet and the Olympics,” Editorial, April 4). The majority of Americans and world citizens (99 percent) -
Letters to the Editor: Chol Soo Lee, AZN TV, R.I.P., Jabbawockeez Love
Chol Soo Lee
Chol Soo Lee’s story highlights the discrimination a Korean American man received in the criminal justice system (“The Story of Chol Soo Lee,” March 28). In the 1970s, San Franciscans had little knowledge of the difference between -

Obama’s Race Speech
Having taught at black public schools and read extensively on African American studies, I fully empathize with the plight of African Americans and their anger and frustration (“We Have A Dream,” Washington Journal, March 21). -
