Not having ever met Susan it is nice to see her move and hear her voice. I believe that if Josh didn't have something to do with Susan's disappearance he would not have killed his children and himself. If he were innocent he would have done EVERYTHING to prove his innocence and fought for his boys.

Regardless of what the Peeping Steven did, he had his day in court and it's in the hands of the jury.

It will always be sad that Josh could never have defended himself. He took the cowards way out and murdered 2 innocent babies in the process.

Comment on Name Change for the Philippines by Ella

I agree a name change is definitely not "necessary" but it certainly will uplift the nation's morale (that is, for those who care) because we will have the feeling of having a new identitiy, as we will no longer be "The People of King Philip". As we all know morale is important in all battles.

While it is true that the people of the Philippines are suffering, and that there are better things to prioritize, it is also true that the rest of the world is no different; everybody is going through some kind of economic disaster, even Europe's crisis is pasted all over international news. Europe, a continent which most Filipinos would look up to as socially privileged.

Another reason I think it would help is that, just like anything, once something is "socially acceptable" it becomes the norm. For example, we used to dislike our local products (well most still do), but now through the help of people encouraging other people it has been thought of as high in quality (expensive, even), and at one point people did not want anything "Made in Japan" because at that time the Japanese Economy has reached rock bottom, but now if something is Made in Japan it's automatically regarded as high-tech, high-quality. Long ago, the Filipinos just allowed Mestizos and Spaniards to call them "Indio" whereas now you can get hurt for doing that.

So what if, just what if, being renamed would make at least a small fraction of us start to realize that we are no longer inferior, we no longer have colonizers, white/black/any other foreign tourists are not "richer", "more sosyal", and that their country's products are not "of better quality" than ours?...

It's a start, right?

Arnie looks like he's hanging off the edge of the anti-war movement which has a long history of being funded and encouraged by foreign governments and terrorists who have an interest in making the US withdraw from conflicts and spending less money on the military. Thus we have people like Ron Paul who claims to be for peace by asking the US to shrink its military and foreign commitments but has no problem with China, Russia or Iran building up their nuclear capabilities and generally arguing against the US / UK / Israel allies but for the China/Russia/Iran/Arab axis. The anti-war is more about making it easier for the other side to wage war than actually ending war when they always have "social justice" and "liberation" as justification for "just wars"

I think you guys neglected the fact that Joe Shoong exploited Chinese laborers who worked under him, see "Gilded Ghettos: Chinatown in the Early Twentieth Century" by Ronald Takaki.

Leslie Corrice,
Your comment that Arnie Gundersen makes "gobs of money" is interesting. What evidence do you have of that? How much money does he make and who are his main benefactors?
Thanks,
Eric

I want the author to personally go to Fukushima, stay there for an hour without wearing any protective gear, then check back every month letting us know how he is feeling. I want him to eat Fukushima food on camera and I want him to drink Fukushima water-on camera. If he cannot do that then everything he is saying is garbage.

Put your money where your mouth is Arthur Hu. Provide unaltered video and regular pictures of you at Fukushima.
We're waiting.

If it is going to take several hours for the fuel rods to melt after they are exposed to air, why not have several tankers fitted with open tops with hinged lids and a water circulation system. Park them next to where the fuel pool is then have the crane lift them out one bundle at a time and lower them into the tanker on supports inside the tanker. should be able to get 3 or 4 in each tanker. with ba second layer of support 6 to 8. It should not take more than 20 mins maximum for each bundle. a good crane crew could do it in 5 to 1 mins. Then they could be hauled to a safer site and deeper water. Then the plant would be safer and easier to clean up.

A fairly balanced perspective, Arthur. I am a bit squeemish about the racial comment (i.e no white americans were harmed), but otherwise a good job. Unfortunately, most of the commenters seem more willing to believe Apocalyptic Arnie's confabulation-based rhetoric over rational, data-based information. That's the really unfortunate part of this thread...belief in anti-nuclear snake-oil salesmen. Arnie's making gobs of money playing on the fears of the Japanese public...and don't think for a minute that money isn't a major part of his intent.
